Planning is now well under-way for the 2014 Textile Care Conference which is to be held at Rydges Hotel in Wellington, New Zealand, on 12th-14th September, 2014. Below is a taste of what the conference will have to offer. KEYNOTE SPEAKER (Ken) Uchiko-shi We are pleased to have secured Keisuke (Ken) Uchiko- shi as our conference keynote speaker. Ken is the US president of Sankosha Co Ltd — a leading manufacturing com-pany for commercial finishing and pack- aging equipment for laundries and drycleaners. However, Ken will not be here to sell you some equipment, he will be more interested in sharing his insights with you on how to look at your business with fresh eyes and improve your profitability. Ken travels the world studying dry cleaning and other industries so he knows how best to serve his customers and is keen to share this information with you. You can’t afford NOT to take the time to come along and hear Ken speak. He is quoted in Fabricare Canada as saying “Cleaners need to be proud of their work, and stand out from the crowd. Work on your brand—make sure your name is bigger than the words ‘dry cleaning’ on the sign. Don’t block the access or the view into the shop. Build customer expectations before they come in! Improve your perception of your business and it will help you improve your service and profits”. If you are asking ‘how can I do that’? Come along to conference and find out. Approved Handlers Course An Approved Handlers Course is being organised for the Friday afternoon at a special TCF mem- bers rate of $125+GST per per- son (includes lunch on arrival). So check your certificate – has it expired? If so, this is a great way to get it up-dated along with other TCF members and combine it with attending conference. Please note that it is a requirement of the Health and Safety in Employment Act and Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act (HSNO) that you MUST have an Approved Handler Certificate where you are handling more than 10 litres of Perc. It may cost you NOT to have an Approved Handlers Certificate - Worksafe NZ are tightening up Workplace health and safety standards and increasing the number of inspectors and workplace audits. FYI—Health and Safety inspectors can issue infringement notices with a fee between $800-$4000 for breaches of the requirement to have a systematic for hazard identification in place, and $100- $3000 for all other breaches of the Act. That is more incentive for ensuring you and your staff are safe! NETWORKING Any good conference should offer plenty of opportunity for confer- ence delegates to network and share information with each other. This conference is no exception. Golf—make the most of the opportunity to getaway and enjoy some time at the beautiful Boulcotts Farm Heritage Golf Club where we have reserved some tee-off times for those keen to hit a small white ball (which has 336 dimples) around 18 holes. Lunch at their café/bar will also be available. Visit www.Boulcotts farmhgc.co.nz to find out more about their facilities.
