From a high 96c the Australian dollar plunged to 66c almost overnight: in one month UDS had several orders for machinery canned. People are watching, waiting. Consumables have varied wildly on a monthly basis as cleaners search for bargains across the industry, but across the quarter it has been fairly even. There are some great bargains out there even for us, with offers of free six months leasing of forklifts, for example. He was pleased to report that the system was starting to catch on. One drycleaner with two perc machines had taken one out and replaced it with an Electrolux Professional 24 kg washer/dryer system and their electricity bill went down 75% (yes, 75%) while business went up by 20%. The company was able to advertise professional laundering of doonas woollen underlays and blankets and they got quite an increase from people who don’t like their bedding processed in chemicals. Spencer Systems Daniel Hays of Spencer Systems said that apart from their usual stable of excellent machines, including Union, Renzacci, Spencer were pleased to present a new line with the Pilot Silent Air Compressor (verrrry quiet) which will be a welcome addition to many plants, and ideal in shopping centres. The added bonus is that it is cheap, and good value. Dan said they have had to work particularly hard on machinery sales but have sold a couple of conveyors in recent months with is promising.
