6 THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL DRYCLEANER & LAUNDERER, VOLUME 59 #2 2009 BILLBOARDS IN THE BEDROOM! I was delighted to attend the Australian launch of prohangers, an innovative marketing solution (brought to you by the HangerNetwork Australia!) prohangers are 100% recycled, recyclable and reusable hangers. The idea for these hangers com- menced life in the USA in 2003 and Balaji Nammalwar decided it would make good sense to bring the ecofriendly prohangers into Australia University of Technology Sydney, McGrath Foundation, Park and Fly, and Dominos are the first entities to deliver their message using prohangers, officially released via a growing network of drycleaners. Mr. Bob Wong of United Drycleaners, Normanhurst the first drycleaner on board. Speaking with Mr Sunny Sirabas of “Park and Fly” at Mascot it was easy to see how advertisers such as he would benefit. Drycleaners in a specific catchment area (Eastern suburbs for him) would be given interesting colourful coathangers, free of charge! He believes the 20% discount coupon will entice new customers to him and away from long term carparking. On some hangers there are partnerships: e.g. University of Technology on one side of the hanger and Dominos Pizza on the reverse (a marriage made in heaven?) I was naturally intrigued to find out how the allied traders in each state would benefit from participation as this rolls out. I asked Bill Saad of UDS what advantage his company expected from the partnership if UDS are not remunerated to deliver the boxes of hangers, given that apart from some warehousing, they would also be up for delivery and related costs. Bill told me while it would not bring in income, and he might even lose money if his customers bought fewer hangers from him! he was prepared to bet it would give him a foot in the door at some cleaners who currently are not customers and give him an opportunity to sell to them. As there is no obligation to buy anything when accepting the free hangers, I will be interested to hear more from Bill down the track. It is certainly interesting. Director of Hanger Network Australia Balaji Nammalwar, and Sales & Marketing Manager Irfan Baig agree prohangers are “Good for Business... Good for Environment”. prohangers are located at Level 5 Nexus Blding, 4 Columbia Court, Baulkham Hills 2153 T 02 8860 9618 F 02 8860 9619 firstname.lastname@example.org On July 10th pro-hangers was officially launched. Here Irfan Baig (left) and Balaji Nammalwar (right) look on as Guest of Honour Nick Bermen (Mayor of Hornsby Shire Council) and Sunny Sirabas (Park and Fly) examine these revolutionary new coathangers ‘billboards’ with pop out discount coupons!
