INTRODUCING Linda Ashburner I thought it was timely that I write a few lines to introduce myself to members and non members of the Professional Dry Cleaners Association Inc., - W.A. branch as the new Executive Officer. As you are no doubt aware, Fiona Lyons is unable to continue in this capacity, as she has been needed by her daughter since Alex’s acci- dent in January of this year. I am known to several of you as Wayne Fowler’s partner, having been involved in the Dry Cleaning Industry with him for 20 years, so I do understand your particular needs. I have a secretarial and bookkeeping background, having worked also in the Real Estate industry for much of the past 15 years. I have been enjoying the administration side of the Dry Cleaning industry since I took over early in March, and have learnt of the benefits of being a Member: • The wealth of knowledge available from our President Haydn Raitt and Vice President Wayne Fowler, which they will always share with newer members. • The Customer Complaints Service handled by Wayne Fowler, where his mediation is often all that is needed to avoid a court hearing (contact Wayne direct on 0408 910 709). • The very efficient Waste Disposal Program. Contact me when you have a drum of Perchloroethylene to be collected and I will organise it in accordance with the Department of Environment’s requirements. • Subsidised rates for Seminars, Functions, Waste Collection etc. Your annual membership pays for itself with one drum of waste collected! • The free listing on Yellow Pages Online, where all Members are listed under a Platinum Tile for our Association. • Our very informative website www.drycleaners.asn.au This contains the list of members, links to affiliated services, contact information and general dry cleaning information, which is accessed by members and the public alike. These are but a few examples of the benefits of being a member of the Professional Dry Cleaning Association inc., your local State Association. Our membership is now 62 - ooops - 63 - another member joined while I was writing this! It is encouraging that our members all seem happy with our service, we are always available to answer any query, and as you can see by the Committee, we have a lot of years experience between us. For our pre-Christmas function we held a river cruise aboard the ‘Decoy’ on Saturday, November 21st 2009. Members gathered at Mends Street Jetty, South Perth for a 5pm departure, returning at 8pm. Our Members were not charged for this event. There was a cover cost for extra guests with some members opting to bring staff. In total, ninety two of us boarded the ‘Decoy’ and it was a wonderful informal opportunity to catch up with fellow members, chat about the Industry and generally catch up.
