get bored, and customers get the vibe when they don’t want to be there. I take regular ‘time out’. “Alan, my grand-dad, said “When you find you don’t welcome your customers, when you are tired, jaded ... it’s time for a fishing trip. Take time out, but don’t burn out.” And I think that is excellent advice and should be engraved on every bathroom mirror.” The lesson was also there from the family (Alan had 7 children, Peter had 5 children and now Mark has three sons) that you all have to pull together. The family business is for the common good, but there are no passengers. The first garments were cleaned and pressed in the shop window on the corner of Montague and Auburn Street’s in Goulburn. To clean a suit cost four and sixpence. In 1954, Herbert Ryan died and Alan brought four of his sons into the rapidly expanding business — Peter, Gary, Brendan and Lynton. Peter Ryan took the business from a larger, extended family concern to a more immediate family business when he opened Canberra Dry Cleaners at Cooleman Court, Weston in 1985. Mark bought the business in 2010. R & R is one of the oldest and respected names in the dry cleaning industry and continues today with a fresh new look.
