ANTHONY KINGSLEY REPORT: TRSA Board Meeting New Orleans First Impressions I would first like to say that the board meetings were incredibly professionally organised. The agenda was over 100 pages long large no of board members everyone had their name in front of them at the table. There are a wide range of board members from all areas of industry there was a big effort made to make sure everyone knew each other socially there was a breakfast organised for the meeting and everyone was encouraged to come an hour early indeed the breakfast was part of the meeting. In addition to the meeting coordinators from outside groups spoke to the board most prominently Women in Textile Services (WITS) Group and a younger members group, encouraging people to progress their careers in the industry There also was a personal development session taken by an outside person whilst this wasn’t necessarily where we want to go it definitely encouraged more communication amongst the Board. In addition I was invited to a TRSA Board dinner and was asked to speak about the LAA. I explained how it had formed from the history of state based TRLA and how we are proceeding with our plans. The social aspect I felt was a good thing and something we can incorporate into the LAA. At the meeting I took the opportunity to promote the TWINCLEAN 2020 Conference and am sure we can get some members over for it. From a financial perspective the TRSA is flush with funds with a huge membership dues income and has just sold the Cleanshow rights to Texcare for many millions. Every activity from a coffee morning to a meeting is charged and looked upon at least as cost neutral to a profit making activity. The TRSA has incredible resources technically and for advocacy to lobbying Washington. Points noted from meeting Fighting legislation in California to have a Bill pulled (filtration of Micro Fibres and Micro Plastics). It would have cost $1million per plant but I have the feeling this will come back and will spread to other states etc., and possibly other 40 THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL DRYCLEANER & LAUNDERER MAY JUNE JULY AUGUST 2019 Tony Colyer proved to be the Host With The Most, probably from a lifetime in Hospitality, providing wine from his own vineyard. .
